VISIBLE (to phalanx)

a) transporting anything to and from planets is visible when those planet(s) are phalanxed.

b) deploying anything planet to planet is visible when those planet(s) are phalanxed, even if those deployments are recalled.

c) recycling missions from a planet to a debris field are visible to phalanx -- the notable exception to this is when the recycling mission is recalled prior to arrival, its arrival time back at the planet is no longer visible

d) transports from planet to moon AND moon to planet ARE visible when the PLANET is phalanxed

e) deployment from moon to planet is visible when the PLANET is phalanxed

f) ACS defense of a planet from moon OR planet is visible when the defended planet or a PLANET sending the ACS defense fleet are phalanxed

INVISIBLE (to phalanx)

a) anything moon to moon -- DEPLOYMENT -and- TRANSPORT are invisible to phalanx

b) anything sent to a debris field from a moon is invisible to phalanx even if not recalled because neither the moon nor the debris field can be phalanxed for time of arrival

c) any deployments from planet TO moon are invisible to phalanx as soon as the send button is hit

d) ACS defense from moon to planet - OR - moon are visible only when being sent and are visible to phalanx ONLY when the planet(s) being defended are phalanxed - the return to the moon is invisible to phalanx...so all you have to do if the defense is phalaxed and responded to by more than you can handle is hit recall

ADVANTAGES AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING A MOON TO FLEETSAVE Empty
PostSubject: The Train Depot Analogy   ADVANTAGES AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING A MOON TO FLEETSAVE Icon_minitimeThu Nov 26, 2009 8:17 am

imagine that the phalanx is a spy trying to get a train schedule from a train depot with the planet being a civilian train depot and the moon being an ultra-secure military depot

Phalanxing a moon isn't possible. Neither is it possible to phalanx a debris field (the equivalent of an abandoned or destroyed depot - because there are no stops scheduled there for passengers - it isn't on the itinerary) However - they can phalanx the planet (depot) for a departure and return time.

If something is being sent to a planet (it doesn't matter from moon/planet) the phalanx (spy) can go to the planet (depot) and get a copy of the itinerary of arrivals and departures.

Anything from a public depot (arrival or departure times) can then be determined. If it is being sent from a planet to a moon as a deployment, there is no "arrival time" because the info is ommitted because the end destination is a secure location and departure time isn't determined until you hit "send."

If transported from planet to moon, there is a departure time and return time available because the planet (depot) being phalanxed (spied on) has a departure and arrival itinerary posted for the train...it's departure and return arrival are at an unsecured location.

So just imagine it like this and you will be able to figure out on your own when anything is visible or not visible...but just in case...when in doubt, follow the rules posted in the training section of the forum for what is visible and what isn't

Oh...and the reason you can fs to a debris field from a planet without being detected according to the train depot analogy has everything to do with the train being recalled.

When you send a fleet to a recycling field and then RECALL before it gets there, you go off the scheduled arrival and departure times. This puts the train engineer and not the depot in charge of when it arrives back from its destination, so the itinerary then becomes useless to the phalanx (spy). It effectively falls off the radar until it returns.
